A. Advancing
Hispanic and minority pre-professionals through career preparation.
Founded in 2004 by seven Stanford students, HUBA began as an organization
that sought to promoting exposure to career opportunities in the fields
of investment science, finance, and entrepreneurship.
HUBA is unique in that it
is the only undergraduate group with this purpose at Stanford University.
The organization is student
run and comprised of a team of committed students that want to learn
firsthand about business careers. Members come from a broad range of
disciplines and are interested in business vocations ranging from investment
banking and management consulting, to corporate law and communications.
HUBA Mission Statement:
Our mission is to provide
our diverse group of members with the tools and resources to succeed
in any environment. Through mentoring partnerships, resume workshops,
business seminars, and job coaching, HUBA prepares its members to become
leaders in their respective careers and to open the doors for Hispanic
and minority advancement.
Our Goals:
• To break down the
barriers minorities face in their pursuit of a professional career.
• To provide our members—who have a wide range of career
interests—with tools and resources to succeed in any environment.
• To establish close ties with top companies in different industries.
Our goal is to provide our members with an intimate view of their work,
environment, and hiring process.
• To promote networking between leading professionals and pre-professional
students.
• To establish valuable community outreach programs targeting
youths and minorities.
• To acquire a strong presence and reputation at Stanford University.
• To uphold values of integrity and honesty in our personal and
professional lives.
Our Members:
Determined. Committed. Leaders.
These are the words that describe the members of HUBA.
Representing a diverse set
of interests and professional goals, HUBA members are committed to self-improvement
and community empowerment. They are founders of school programs, passionate
health advocates, community outreach workers, journalists, and pre-professional
lawyers. Our diversity is a highlight of our organization; our members
strive for excellence regardless of the setting. We draw from the many
different experiences of our members to bring the best that HUBA has
to offer, whether in the boardroom, a community service activity, or
a social event.
Our
History:
In 2004, several business-minded
Stanford undergraduates realized the need for an organization that provided
support to Hispanic and minority students pursuing business careers.
After assembling a strong team of founding officers, their vision became
a reality. In the spring of 2004, under the guidance of Stanford alumnus
Michael Canul ('91)--who's enthusiastic support has been critical to
the organization's success--HUBA was started.
Since its inception, HUBA
has expanded by recruiting a team of 21 highly talented leaders.
Our Activities:
• Interview preparation
• Resume workshops
• Investment and case-study seminars
• Partnerships with leading companies, such as Deloitte Consulting,
UBS, and Intero
• Public Speaking workshops
• Job shadowing
• Community outreach programs for high-school students and minorities.
Our Business Partnerships:
HUBA’s partnership
with leading companies promotes valuable relationships between our members
and professionals. Through these relationships, HUBA has been able to
conduct workshops on real-estate investment and business consulting.
Currently, we are seeking to diversify our corporate partners. We hope
to provide our diverse group of members with a wider array of exposure
to different industries.
